White Pine County announced on April 29 that the draft of the 2026 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review. The review period will run from Monday, April 27 through Monday, May 25 at 5:00 p.m., with an adoption hearing scheduled before the White Pine County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, June 10.
The plan is a joint effort by White Pine County, Eureka County, and the Ely Shoshone Tribe to identify both natural and human-caused hazards that impact their communities. It also sets priorities for actions aimed at reducing future losses to life, property, and critical infrastructure.
A FEMA-approved and locally adopted hazard mitigation plan is required to maintain eligibility for several federal funding programs. These include the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), as well as federal Public Assistance funds used to rebuild infrastructure after a presidentially declared disaster.
Residents interested in reviewing the draft can request an electronic copy by emailing MRieske@whitepinecountynv.gov; a PDF will be provided within one business day. A printed version is also available for in-person review at the White Pine Historic Courthouse Recorders Office located at County Courthouse, 801 Clark St., Ely.
Comments on the draft should be submitted via email to MRieske@whitepinecountynv.gov by May 25 at 5:00 p.m. For questions about the process or content of the plan, contact Mathias Rieske, Emergency Manager for White Pine County.
