Of the 105 students involved in safety incidents at Humboldt County schools, 47.6% of them were girls, according to the Nevada Accountability Portal. This is 10.4% more than the state’s average of 37.2%.

The number of Humboldt County girls involved in criminal activity at school grew by 35.1% compared to the previous year.

Out of 11 Humboldt County schools, Winnemucca Junior High School reported the most girls getting in trouble, reaching 30 total incidents in the 2022-23 school year.

Parents have raised concerns about increasing crime in Nevada schools.

“Nevada schools are in a state of crisis as classroom violence increases,” Sig and Lori Rogich wrote in an opinion column in the Reno Gazette Journal.

An analysis of school district police data by the Las Vegas Sun found that both the occurrence and intensity of crimes within schools are increasing dangerously.

Some data provided by the Nevada Accountability Portal may be incomplete due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
