Churchill County Library: April Events and Happenings

Spring is in full swing at the Churchill County Library with a full calendar of fun events for the community.  No need to sign-up or preregister, excepted where noted, so just come on down to the library!

Special Events

Learn-to-fly-a-drone workshops happening on April 5 and 19 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Drop-in 3D printing drop-in workshops take place April 12 and 26 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Using the library’s 3D printer, make objects, both useful and pretty, and learn more about this popular technology. 

Reading with Rover takes place on April 13 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence to a decidedly captive audience. Added bonus: our furry friends are great listeners!

Empty Bowls returns on April 16 from noon to 3 p.m. Join together at the library for homemade soup and you keep the bowl which was made and donated by the Churchill County High School ceramics class. Make a non-perishable food or cash donation to participate. Proceeds benefit the Fallon Chamber of Commerce’s karma boxes and the Churchill Library Association.

Need a career change? Let EmployNV help you with aspects of finding a new job on April 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. EmployNV staff will help you with aspects of finding a new job!

Ongoing Programs

“1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages youngsters to read age-appropriate books before entering school. Book titles are suggested and offered by library staff. Recognition given for every 100 books read on the way to 1,000! Sign-ups accepted at any time.

Tuesdays

Knitting Club meets at 10 a.m. and welcomes both novice and advanced knitters. They are willing to offer advice and tips and offer encouragement on your project.

Virtual Reality drop-in sessions take place from 3:15 to 5 p.m. All welcome to stop by!

Writer’s Group meets at 5 p.m. and welcomes you to discover what area writers are inspired by and working on. Bring your own manuscript to add a few paragraphs.

Wednesdays

In-person children’s story time is expanding! Now meeting on Wednesdays at 11 a.m.  and Thursdays at 10 and 11 a.m. Each week’s story time will feature the same content. Children’s Librarian Miss J reads picture books to children and offers a craft to accompany most stories. Each session is recorded and posted to the library’s YouTube account for on-demand viewing at your convenience.

Thursdays

Children’s story time at 10 and 11 a.m. and Knitting Club meets again at 4 p.m. 

Fridays

STEAM sessions with VR are on Fridays from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Have a problem with your computer or smartphone? Head over the William N. Pennington Life Center on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. and get answers from Technical Services Librarian Joe Salsman, an expert in all things technology! 

Hours of operation

Library hours of operation are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays and major holidays.
