Looking for a new activity as we roll into spring? Check out the events and happenings at the Churchill County Library in March. No need to sign-up or preregister, excepted where noted, so just come on down to the library!
Special Events
Drop-in 3D printing workshops take place March 1 and 15 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Using the library’s 3D printer, make objects, both useful and pretty, and learn more about this popular technology.
Learn to fly a drone at workshops happening on March 8 and 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Reading with Rover takes place on March 9 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence to a decidedly captive audience. Added bonus: our furry friends are great listeners!
Need a career change? Let EmployNV help you with aspects of finding a new job on March 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. EmployNV staff will help you with aspects of finding a new job!
Ongoing Programs
“1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages youngsters to read age-appropriate books before entering school. Book titles are suggested and offered by library staff. Recognition given for every 100 books read on the way to 1,000! Sign-ups accepted at any time.
An exhibit of Nevada State Parks featuring photos from the Churchill County Museum is up all month. Ask at the library front desk for more information about the new Nevada Park Pass program.
Tuesdays
Knitting Club meets at 10 a.m. and welcomes both novice and advanced knitters. They are willing to offer advice and tips and offer encouragement on your project.
Virtual Reality drop-in sessions take place from 3:15 to 5 p.m. All welcome to stop by!
Writer’s Group meets at 5 p.m. and welcomes you to discover what area writers are inspired by and working on. Bring your own manuscript to add a few paragraphs.
Wednesdays
In-person children’s story time at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Children’s Librarian Miss J reads picture books to children and offers a craft to accompany most stories. Each session is recorded and posted to the library’s YouTube account for on-demand viewing at your convenience.
Thursdays
Children’s story time at 11 a.m. and Knitting Club meets again at 4 p.m.
Fridays
STEAM sessions with VR are on Fridays from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Have a problem with your computer or smartphone? Head over the William N. Pennington Life Center on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. and get answers from Technical Services Librarian Joe Salsman, an expert in all things technology!
Hours of operation
Library hours of operation are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays and major holidays.
