Las Vegas Nevada recently issued the following announcement.

The city of Las Vegas is recruiting 10 AmeriCorps members to work with pre-school and elementary school children from May through Aug. 31, 2022. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. AmeriCorps members will serve at least 300 hours during the service term. The position includes a stipend of up to $3,300 for the term ($300 bi-weekly) and an education award of $1,374.60 upon successful completion of the program. The hours of those working with ReInvent Schools Las Vegas elementary students will be Monday-Friday during the school day for 22.5-27.5 hours per week (dependent on official start date). Hours for working with pre-school children in the Strong Start GO Mobile Pre-K Academies will be Monday-Thursday during the school day for 20-26 hours per week (dependent on official start date).

Strong Start GO Mobile Pre-K Academies offer children and families free, high-quality, early-education programming, including family engagement workshops and activities. AmeriCorps members will provide academic interventions, including cognitive, social-emotional and physical growth and development assistance.

The ReInvent Schools Las Vegas elementary school program focuses on improving academic excellence for every child by creating a strong collective culture among students, families and educators to ensure academic achievement and promote lifelong success for every child. AmeriCorps members will be Success Mentors, providing academic and social-emotional interventions at one of 16 elementary school in the program.

The city of Las Vegas also is recruiting for 10 positions in the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program for a 12-month, full-time commitment of service from May 2022 to May 2023. Eligible candidates will be at least 18 years of age with a college degree or some college education, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Specific benefits will depend on the position selected and include:

  • A stipend up to $15,002 living allowance for a one-year service term;
  • Education Award of up to $6,345 following successful completion of the service year;
  • End-of-year stipend award of $1,800.
  • Federal student loan forbearance or deferment;
  • Ongoing training and professional development; and
  • The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families.
