University of Nevada recently issued the following announcement.
What's your role on campus?
Associate Professor, Geography
How long have you been riding a bike?
Rode as a kid like everyone where I grew up back then. I've been a bike commuter since about 1990. Raced for a few years in the 90s. I've been commuting by bike at UNR almost exclusively since 2020.
What's the most fun you've ever had on a bike?
That's a tough one so I'm going to give you two answers:
1) in college at Madison, some good friends and I would ride around town onn our racing bikes, fancy sunglasses, and shaved legs and think we were really cool. And the camaraderie combined with post-ride food/drinks (which taste AMAZING after riding) just brought us a lot of happiness and great memories.
2) My wife and I got a tandem right after we got married and we did a really nice rail-to-trail B&B bike tour in the driftless (unglaciated/hilly) area of SE Minnesota. Beautiful area, fun time, and a great test for compatibility (we're still married!).
What's great about bike commuting to the University of Nevada, Reno?
We have great weather, improving infrastructure, and great potential to get more people on bikes, e-bikes, and other forms of micromobility.
