251

County of Elko recently issued the following announcement.

Weather and fuel conditions permitting, the Elko County Fire Protection District anticipates pile burning efforts in three (3) units.

Burning should occur from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Pacific Time),  February 21 - February 24, 2022.

Prescribed Fire operations will start on the Spring Creek side of Lamoille Summit. The purpose of the prescribed fire is to reduce hazardous fuels in and around infrastructure and communities

1. Along powerlines and private property east of Lamoille highway from Spring Valley Parkway to the top of Lamoille Summit.

2. Along powerlines and private property east of Lamoille Highway from the top of Lamoille Summit to Lamoille Highway

3. Along powerlines and private property west of Lamoille Highway from Summit Estates to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital

Smoke resulting from the pile burns will affect the surrounding areas for approximately 12-24 hours. For people that are smoke sensitive, we suggest to please stay inside and close your windows and doors until the smoke dissipates.

We thank the community for your patience and understanding with the short-term smoke
impacts, realizing that improving range health and fire safety are the long-term benefits.

For further information, or to request to be added to the district’s Prescribed Fire Notification list, please call the Fire District at 775-738-9960 or Email: charman@elkocountynv.net.
