The Nevada Department of Transportation announced on May 7 that sections of State Route 278 near Eureka will be resurfaced between June 1 and June 25. The project will affect the highway from mileposts 0 to 35, starting at the U.S. Highway 50 junction near Eureka and extending north for about 35 miles.
This roadwork is expected to cause travel delays as crews work primarily from Mondays through Thursdays, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. During these times, flaggers and a pilot car will be in use, reducing the roadway to one lane.
According to the department’s tentative schedule, resurfacing will begin on June 1 from the U.S. Highway 50 junction to Sixth Street. On June 2, work will move from Fifth Street to Eleventh Street, followed by Eleventh Street to Milepost 15 on June 3. The final scheduled segment is set for June 4, covering Milepost 16 up to the top of Garden Pass.
Local traffic is advised to use alternate routes during construction days as access may be limited in certain segments while work is underway.
The Nevada Department of Transportation said this maintenance aims to improve road conditions for drivers along this stretch near Eureka.
