Churchill County Sheriff Richard C. Hickox, Jr. dies after cancer complications

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 13 the death of Sheriff Richard C. Hickox, Jr., who died on April 11 due to complications from cancer.

Hickox served Churchill County for more than 28 years in various roles, beginning as a detention deputy and rising through the ranks to become sheriff. He was also active in community organizations, his church, and served as a board member of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association, where he recently completed his term as president.

County Commissioners Myles Getto, Eric Blakey and Matt Hyde said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of Sheriff Hickox’s passing over the weekend. He was a devoted public servant who was dedicated to his department and this community. He will be sorely missed by all of us who interacted with him. Our sympathies are with his wife, Barb, and his family.”

Sheriff Hickox is remembered by colleagues for his dedication to public service throughout nearly three decades in law enforcement.
