Blue pinwheels are on display throughout Fallon this April to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month, according to an announcement on Apr. 3 by city and county officials. The displays serve as a reminder that everyone has a role in promoting the well-being of children.
A ceremony was held at Millennium Park where City of Fallon and Churchill County leaders gathered to thank community members who work to protect local children. City of Fallon Councilwoman Kelly Frost read a joint proclamation from the city and county recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Frost said that effective child abuse prevention relies on partnerships among citizens, human services agencies, schools, faith communities, health care providers, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies and the business community.
Churchill County School District Superintendent Derild Parsons spoke about the school district’s mission to keep children safe. Representatives from various groups attended the event including members of the Churchill County Juvenile Probation Office, District Attorney’s Office, City of Fallon staff, Fallon City Council members, Churchill County Social Services staff, officials from the County Manager’s Office and representatives from the Mayor’s office.
The event was emceed by Churchill County Commission Chair Myles Getto. Pinwheels for Prevention is an annual observance that takes place in early April each year.
